Grenfell Stingers v Parkes Hotel Football Club
Parkes Hotel FC traveled to Grenfell to face a Stingers side that have had mixed results in recent weeks. Parkes Hotel started the game with an attacking formation, in an attempt to get the ball forward to star striker Sam Standen. However, it didn’t go to plan, as Grenfell seemed to have more spring in their step, winning the majority of 50/50 balls and scoring four unanswered goals in the first half.
In the second half Parkes Hotel looked looked like a completely different side, playing very physical, winning possession and creating some quality chances through some excellent ball movement. Parkes Hotel were on top and took advantage of this through 3 quality set pieces by captain Dan Gordon. Kyle London got on the end of one, starting the comeback. This was followed by a Sam Standen and Alex Boyd header, taking the score to 4-3. Parkes Hotel continued the comeback, equalising through a Sam Standen stike, courtesy of a quality through ball from midfielder Malcolm Bruce.
It looked as though Parkes Hotel would score again from a set piece, when Grenfell failed to clear their lines. However Grenfell scrambled well and scored a controversial goal, with the Grenfell appearing to be offside. This stalled Parkes Hotel’s comeback, who conceeded sixth goal late in the second half.
A special mention to keeper Mathew Flynn making some good saves in the second half and rallied the team allowing the possibility of a come from behind win. A mention must also go to Kyle London who never stopped running the whole game, winning possession and making quality breaks behind the defensive line.
